Salvat The British Broadcasting Corporation has produced many course to learn different languages, but I think this one was their best. The course is taught by David Salvatore who also wrote the book "A Woman in Jerusalem" which was made into a film. This course is not about grammar; instead it focuses on vocabulary, culture and how to speak like a native speaker. It's interesting material that will be engaging for students of all levels of experience in English language learning. This is one of the courses I recommend for this site because it provides good details on all the topics introduced in the lessons and because there are no interviews with native speakers or transcripts. There are also several exercises that can be done with a partner. In the first lesson, the students are asked to write Roman numerals in their notebooks. This is very useful because it focuses on vocabulary rather than grammar. Salvatore begins his series by giving an overview of history and geography to prepare students for listening to and watching television in England. The lessons emphasize that English is spoken everywhere; it’s not only spoken by the British. The students learn about manufacturing, immigration, language, surnames, time zones and popular culture. This course opens doors to learning about other cultures which will make the student (or at least me) more tolerant or friendly towards people whose native language is different than mine. While the emphasis is on putting it into practice, even if you are an advanced student, you can find useful information in this course. David Salvatore was the host of Good Morning Africa, a popular television show in Africa. It was broadcasted every Monday to Friday at the Nairobi Television Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. The shows were recorded at studios located in London. It was broadcasted to Kenya five times a week by East African Television (EAT), which was also known as Canal+ Kenya. He also hosted the show Weekends with David Salvatore which aired on Sunday's at 4:30 PM on EAT2 channel. He wrote a book called “A Woman In Jerusalem” which was made into a film. It was about a woman's struggle to find independence and how she finds it in the end. Salvatore is an actor and a director as well as a university lecturer. He has been working for the BBC since the 1960s, presenting various programmes on different subjects such as consumer issues, politics, social affairs and many others. He worked as an executive producer for Radio 4 where he produced popular programmes such as "East Meets West", "The World Today" and "Words From America". He also produced Radio 4’s current affairs programme “Full Review” and The Westminster Hour for BBC TV. He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and has also acted in television programs such as "The Home Song Stories", played a soccer coach in the TV series "Soccer Team". He won a number of awards for his work. He received an MBE from the Queen for his contribution to broadcasting, and was knighted by HM The Queen Elizabeth II for services to drama. In 2005, he was voted as one of the 100 most influential people in Britain by Time magazine. In 2007, he was named one of Britain's best known actors by ITV's magazine The List.
